Trading Signals: How to Spot a Genuinely Verified Track Record

Channels selling trading signals are everywhere: Telegram, Discord, Instagram. Almost all of them post screenshots of spectacular wins. The problem is that a screenshot proves nothing. It might show a demo account or a single good month, or it might have been edited. The only serious proof is a complete history, calculated from the orders actually placed with a broker.

Self-reported or verified: the difference that matters

A self-reported history is entered by the trader: they choose what to publish and can conveniently forget the losses. A verified history is pulled directly from the trading account (MetaTrader, cTrader or a broker's API): every order opened and closed is recorded, winners and losers alike. That second kind is what you should insist on before following a signal or paying for a subscription.

The 6 numbers to look at

  1. Duration: a few weeks tell you nothing. Aim for at least six months, ideally a year or more, covering several market conditions.
  2. Number of trades: 10 trades can be luck; 200 trades start to reveal a method.
  3. Maximum drawdown: the largest fall from a peak. An account that was down 50% at some point needs to gain 100% just to get back to where it started.
  4. Win rate and reward-to-risk ratio: 80% winning trades are worthless if every loss wipes out five wins.
  5. Consistency: steady monthly results are worth more than one exceptional month followed by losses.
  6. Risk per trade: a stop loss on every trade and a stable position size are signs of discipline.

Red flags

  • Gains of several hundred percent in a few weeks: they almost always come with heavy leverage or a martingale that eventually blows up the account.
  • No stop loss, or losing positions held indefinitely in the hope they will come back.
  • A history that keeps "starting over": new account, new channel, new winning streak.
  • Promises of guaranteed or "risk-free" profits: zero risk does not exist in the markets.

How Analyse-Trading verifies performance

On Analyse-Trading, a trader can connect their broker account (MetaTrader 4 and 5, cTrader and other platforms) in read-only mode. Their positions then automatically become signals, and their track record page calculates statistics from the real orders: return, drawdown, number of trades, monthly results. Nobody can remove a losing trade from the history.

Before following someone, open their profile, check how long their history goes back and what their drawdown is, then compare them with other traders on the leaderboard. And if you trade yourself, connecting your account is the best way to build a reputation that nobody can dispute.

Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. Leveraged trading carries a high risk of capital loss. This guide is for information only and does not constitute investment advice.
