Commodity
A commodity is a raw good traded on markets: energy (oil, gas), metals (gold, silver, copper) or agricultural products (wheat, coffee).
Commodities trade mainly through futures, on NYMEX, COMEX, ICE or CBOT. Retail brokers offer them as CFDs: WTI or Brent crude, gold, silver, natural gas.
Their prices react to physical supply and demand: OPEC+ decisions, weekly US oil inventories, weather for crops, Chinese growth for copper.
Under ESMA and FCA rules, gold gets maximum retail leverage of 20:1, while other commodities are capped at 10:1. Oil and gas can be very volatile: adjust your size. Seasonal patterns also play a role, such as heating demand for natural gas in winter or harvest periods for grains.
