Short position
Going short means selling an asset you don't own to profit from a fall, then buying it back lower.
Short selling lets you make money when a market falls. In forex it comes naturally: selling EUR/USD means buying dollars against euros. On indices, gold or shares via CFDs, you sell first and buy back later.
A short position opens at the bid and closes at the ask. Its stop goes above the entry. In theory, a short's loss has no limit because price can rise without a ceiling: the stop is not optional.
With real shares, short selling means borrowing the stock. With CFDs, your broker handles that mechanism, but borrowing fees may apply on some stocks.
