MetaTrader (MT4 / MT5)
MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, made by MetaQuotes, are the most widely used trading platforms at forex and CFD brokers.
MT4, launched in 2005, is still very popular for forex thanks to its simplicity and its huge catalogue of indicators and robots. MT5, its successor, adds more timeframes, a built-in economic calendar, a multi-currency strategy tester and access to more asset classes.
Both support automated trading through expert advisors, coded in MQL4 or MQL5. The two are not compatible with each other.
