Triangle pattern
A triangle is a consolidation pattern where price moves between two converging lines. It often comes before the prior move resumes.
There are three types. A symmetrical triangle has falling highs and rising lows. An ascending triangle combines flat resistance with rising lows, with a rather bullish bias. A descending triangle is the opposite.
The breakout usually goes in the direction of the previous trend, but not always. Wait for a close outside the pattern. The theoretical target projects the height of the triangle's base from the breakout point.
The further price moves towards the apex without breaking out, the less reliable the pattern becomes. Volume, where available, often falls while it forms.
