Scalping
Scalping is a very short-term trading style, with positions held from a few seconds to a few minutes to capture small moves.
A scalper aims for a few pips or points per trade and may take dozens in a session. They work on very short timeframes (tick, M1, M5) and on very liquid markets: EUR/USD, US indices and gold, during the busiest hours.
Costs are the main enemy. With a 5-pip target, a 1-pip total cost is 20% of the intended gain. Tight spreads, fast execution and low commission are essential.
Scalping demands intense focus and strict discipline. It is hard to combine with a job and carries a high risk of overtrading.
